Okay, here's a little bit about me. I am Drew Melton. I graduated with honors from Marshall University with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art and an emphasis in painting. Since then, I've been continuing my advanced studies in art and working on my websites.
I specialize in drawing and painting. I think those two skills go together nicely. In fact, I consider drawing a prerequisite skill to painting because representational painting requires accuracy in placement and proportions of elements on a page. My style has evolved from realism to a blend of impressionism and realism. I find it more exciting to add color and brushstrokes to my work, rather than feel limited by trying to make work look like a photograph.
I work in an art studio at home. Pictured here is the painting area. I plan on building a larger studio when I get my next house. There is also a computer room where I build my websites and do digital art, and a large table for drawing. For digital art, I use a Wacom Intuous 2 6x8 tablet. Of course, I enjoy the hands-on feel of real paint more so, but digital painting is great for sketches and experimenting. I mostly use oil paint because it is thick, strong, and the colors are hard to beat, but I do dabble in watercolor, gouache and other media from time to time. If you ever need to get a hold of me, use the contact page. In the meantime, enjoy my articles on drawing and painting! And be sure to check out my gallery while you are here.
Also, I have recently started teaching art classes in person for both children and adults in the area of Teays Valley/ Scott Depot, WV. The classes can hold about 10 to 12 people each. If you have any questions about that, just let me know. Note: If you do a google search for my name "Drew Melton" you will probably find other people with my same name. So, try not to get us all mixed up! My words of wisdom..."Accuracy is most important. It's also one of the hardest things to get right. But do so, and everything else will fall into place." "Straight lines give more solidity and strength to objects or people. This is why they are used in the classical style so much." "Put a brushstroke down and leave it. If it really looks bad, fix it later with a new separate stroke. Too many beginners see a need to blend everything all at once and it makes their work look flat." ~ Drew Melton |
