Quick Tips :Be sure to also study the drawing section because I consider being able to draw accurately very helpful when working with paint. I firmly believe that accuracy is still most important in art. If you mess up the color, you can still get by. If you mess up the lighting, it'll be okay, but if you mess up the accuracy and everything is "off," then as a whole it becomes very weak. Color...Of course, color and value are still important. In fact, they are very important, but without a good foundation, they will not be as effective. So, I will be showing you how to get everything placed accurately with repertory sketches, a good rough outline with lines or shading, and how to keep checking for accurate placement of objects as you paint. To get the color right, I will show you what colors to choose for your palette, how to mix them, considerations for a palette color, and more. Values...For value, I will show you how to compare the values of each color. Getting the value right is hard enough in a black and white drawing, but when you are working in color, it becomes tricky because how dark is each color? Is blue darker than red? Is purple darker than green? Yes to both, actually. Purple, especially in oil, is the darkest color. Blue is darker than red and red and green are both about the same value. I will be expanding on this in the lessons on value so you can get the lighting to come alive in your work. Brushstrokes...I will be covering how to use brushstrokes effectively for both depth and expression, and of course I will be talking about composition. Lessons on composition will cover things like using shape, line, value and color, balance, proportions, and even choosing a dynamic canvas size (not all sizes are dynamic). |
